Foreign Language Policy
The Turkish Education Association gives high priority to foreign language education, mainly English, by virtue of its mission to open English-medium schools, and regards the foreign language education offered to students in its schools as TED schools’ most important distinguishing feature . In TED schools, English education is given on the basis of the curriculum prepared taking Common European Framework as a reference. Different learning styles are taken into consideration and individual computer-based programmes are applied from kindergarten through the 12th grade, thus enabling students to receive international certificates.
Adopting the philosophy of life-long learning, the Turkish Education Association organises extensive in-service training programmes for the teachers so as to provide them with the opportunity of professional development. The Turkish Education Association shows the helpful, supportive and problem-solving approach that it has taken as its foreign language policy not only for the teachers and students in TED schools but also for the teachers and students in all state schools, organising seminars and workshops, within social responsibility projects, for the English teachers in many cities and providing English education for the students in state schools who are in financial need.
TED DENIZLI COLLEGE
In TED Denizli College, TED English Education Program which has been specially designed for TED Schools is applied within the framework of Ministry of National Education English Teaching Program. Foreign language education given by the Turkish and native teachers support our students to improve in terms of their language and critical thinking skills in accordance with the Common European Framework.
Foreign language cirriculum is spiral and gradual. The students who have already acquired the basic language skills gradually develop them. In our foreign language cirriculum we focus on four basic language skills equally: Listening , Spoken Interaction, Spoken Production , Reading and Writing. We also work on strands of these basic skills. Grammar education has been provided within the framework of above mentioned skills, not as a seperate learning outcome. In case they need, our students are supported by our teachers with extra lessons.
During the lessons both international books and the written and oral materials which have been specially prepared for TED Schools are used. 21st century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity have also been integrated into the programme. It also aims the students to take international certificates such as Cambridge YLE.[:]
